NATIONAL NEWS - Aviation groups Airlink and Safair have announced they’re seeking the go-ahead from the Competition Commission to unite under the Airlink group of companies but they will continue to operate under their unique brands.
The companies made the announcement on Monday, saying their formal application will be submitted on Tuesday.
Airlink was established in 1992 while Safair has been operating since 1965, providing specialised aviation services.
While the decision would see Safair merge under the Airlink umbrella, FlySafair airlines and other Safair business, which includes humanitarian aid flights, will continue to operate under their own names.
Airlink chief executive Rodger foster says the acquisition makes good business sense and the combined networks will enable the company to reach 37 destinations.
