A young man, who had travelled from Mooi River to Pietermaritzburg for the annual Ukhozi FM concert, traditionally held on the last Sunday of the Royal Show, was stabbed to death, amid the mayhem that ensued when thousands of revellers discovered that organisers had cancelled the event.
The hordes of would-be concert goers turned the field opposite the Invesco centre into a make-shift party zone which soon descended into chaos and violence, as gangs of drunken revellers turned on each other. The young man identified only as “Themba” was apparently attacked and stabbed repeatedly.
