What’s up with the name?
As its nomenclature suggests it gets an extra 10 horsepower over the standard 265 Lux model, hence, the 275. The new flagship comes with a range of goodies to make it the most hardcore Mégane ever sold, locally.
A word from management
Brian Smith, vice president of marketing and communications at Renault South Africa said: "This is an all-round performance car that combines everyday driveability with an even sharper track performance. The Cup chassis fully taps the potential of the F1-inspired upgraded Renault Sport 2.0, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. Premiering on the Mégane RS 275 Trophy, it has undergone significant fine-tuning and been optimised to produce maximum power of 275bhp."
What’s new?
Apart from the same revised front from the LUX model, the new Trophy gets 19-inch black Trophy aluminium alloy wheels, which guard those Brembo brakes, Trophy striping on the rear quarter panels and decals on the front doors and a numbered door sill guard to distinguish each car. There’s also a carbon-look dashboard moulding and a suede-clad steering wheel and gear lever.
Performance?
Power is up to 201kW/360Nm while the engine sound has also been enhanced with the addition of an Akrapovič exhaust system with a carbon tailpiece. Consumption is also down thanks to the inclusion of a Stop/Start system for a consumption figure of 7.5 litres/100 km.
There is still the helical Limited Slip Differential (LSD) and independent steering-axis layout. The Cup chassis is stiffer and lower and provides a higher degree of cornering ability.
What kit do I get?
You’ll get infotainment goodies Integrated Carminat TomTom Live Navigation, RS Monitor 2.0 full 3-D Race Telemetry with data download functionality, RS Dynamic Management, Multi-mode ESP featuring Normal, Sport and Race modes, automatic lights and windscreen wipers, cruise control and speed limiter and RadioSat Classic with CD MP3 with USB/Bluetooth/AUX port, plus fingertip controls behind the steering wheel.
Safety
The new model comes with ABS brakes with Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) anti-skid system and CSV under-steer control, along with six air bags (front, side and curtain).
Free driver training
The Renault Advanced Driver Training programme is offered for free to all Renault Sport customers. This includes high performance racetrack and skid pan courses and training that assist in the day-to-day hazards that face drivers on public roads.
Peace of mind?
There’s a five-year/150 000km mechanical warranty and a five-year/90 000km service plan as standard
