A breakfast class race also took place, where racers could bring their track bikes (600s, 1000s etc.) to race some other newbies for some fun. The Drifters Class event, including Moto-X (MX) bikes with road tyres, put on a splendid show. The lunchtime kids' class event gave the little ones an opportunity to bring out their PW 50/80s or pocket bikes and try out the south end drift loop for some supervised fun.
Desmond Gutzeit, owner of the Dezzi South Coast Raceway said the event proceeded very well. “The challenge of road racing at excessive speeds was enough to give any competitor an adrenaline rush. Spectators also felt the rush as drivers put foot to the pedal,” said Mr Gutzeit. “The coastal venue is very popular among competitors and spectators, as many South African records have been set here. We were very pleased with the turnout as cars and bikes from across the country competed,” he said.
“Engine management and choice was of paramount importance and clever teamwork, the right combination of strategy and tactics, together with excellent driver and car performance were needed to win,” he explained.
