MOTORING NEWS - The RC has been around since 2015, so the new version is more of a subtle update which Lexus called a "minor change for 2019".
The RC 300EX has been discontinued and the RC 350 in F Sport guise, at R939 100, is now the only model to opt for.
Looking at the pictures one thing is clear: this is a real looker.
For 2019 you get a new front bumper, grille mesh pattern and L-shaped LED daytime-running lights.
At the rear, air ducts have been added to the corners of the bumper, along with tail lights that house more pronounced L-shaped lenses. This is a new signature design feature for Lexus coupés.
Ten exterior colours are available with 19" alloy wheels. These include Naples Yellow and Poseidon Blue, White Nova, Sonic Titanium, Solar Storm Red and Graphite Black. Brand-new to Lexus RC are Lava Orange, Mercury Grey, Black and Sparkling Meteor.
Inside, a brushed treatment has been applied to the heater control and audio panels. The cushioned knee pads on either side of the centre console have been made larger and raised higher to create a greater sense of space in the front. Interior trim colours include Black, Flare Red, White and Mustard - the latter features subtle yellow accents on a black background.
Other little touches include a reshaped driver's palm rest and a new stitching pattern to the surface. There is an analogue clock, identical to the one in the LC, and new ergonomically defined cup holders.
The Lexus RC 350 F Sport offers a solid and top-quality interior.
POWER
The 3,5-litre 2GR-FKS naturally aspirated V6 engine in the Lexus RC 350 F Sport, runs through an eight-speed automatic transmission. It produces 232kW of power and 380Nm torque that translates to the silky-smooth drive that can be expected from a premium GT car.
To make the most of the power on tap, it is fitted with new shock absorbers with an increased damping force and stiffer suspension bushings that have been fine-tuned to offer improved ride and handling.
This sporty Lexus is fitted with adaptive variable suspension (AVS), which electronically controls and monitors all four dampers simultaneously to suit driving conditions and personal driver preferences. This setup is suited to the car's GT nature.
SAFETY
The Lexus RC 350 F Sport comes with every safety aid you can think of, from lane departure alert with lane keep assist to the pre-crash system with pedestrian detection. The emergency brake signal acts to prevent rear end collisions.
The RC 350 F Sport's automatic high-beam uses the same camera to switch to low beam when the lights of oncoming or preceding vehicles are detected.
The blind spot monitor (BSM) has changed from second-generation to third-generation, providing optimised functionality in detecting all-round obstructions in adjacent lanes or when manoeuvring into parking bays.
Hill start assist comes standard in the RC 350 F Sport. This technology is a brake hold function that helps keep a vehicle from rolling backwards when the driver pulls away on an incline, providing a smooth start.
The Lexus RC 350 F Sport is a niche offering for the discerning driver. It offers a best-in-class, seven year or 105 000km warranty and full maintenance plan as well as a Lexus distance plan to complete the offering. The vehicle service intervals are at every 15 000km, alternatively once a year.
