The production version of the LRX concept and initiator of Range Rover’s then styling language, the now five-door only Evoque comes with looks derived from the Velar in the form of slimmer headlights with optional Matrix LEDs, flush door handles, wheel arches extended to accommodate the optional 21-inch alloy wheels, Velar inspired LED taillight clusters and as before, the R-Dynamic appearance package.

Inside, the changes include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, the dual ten-inch Touch Pro Duo system with the top mounted infotainment display and the centrally placed climate control setup, a new steering wheel and retention of the gear lever in place of the rotary dial used before.

New tech comes in the form of a colour Heads-Up Display, up to six USB ports, the so-called Click & Go rear seat clips designed for tablets, the new ClearSight Ground view system that provides a ‘transparent view’ of what takes place ahead using cameras mounted on the grille and underneath the mirrors, Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Driver Condition Monitor and Lane Keep Assist.

Based on all-new platform called Premium Transverse Architecture that has increased the wheelbase by 22m, width by 11mm and height by 13mm, the Evoque will go on sale in April with a choice of two 2.0-litre Ingenium engines, both teamed to the ZF-sourced nine-speed automatic gearbox. Carrying the P250 designation, the turbocharged petrol motor produces 183kW/365Nm, while the D180 turbodiesel has outputs of 132kW/430Nm.

As before, drive is routed to all four wheels with the additional inclusion of Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system that comes with five modes; Comfort, Auto, Sand, Grass/Gravel/Snow and Mud/Ruts and off-road tech such as Hill Descent Control, Gradient Release Control and All-Terrain Progress Control and the optional Wade Sensing system that detects the depth of water right up to the 600mm limit.
