According to carsdirect.com, Kia spokesperson James Hope stated that the sporty coupe, known as the Forte Koup in the States, would not be carried over into the 2018 model year, as the company instead focuses its attention on aligning its products with current market trends.
Despite a five percent sales increase across the Forte range in the first half of 2017, the Koup has failed to garner the same success as its direct rival, the Honda Civic Coupe, not helped by offering less features, less power and a price tag undercutting the Japanese by a mere $85 ($1 130).
It however remains unknown if local models, available with a single 152 kW / 265 Nm 1.6-litre T-GDI engine and mated to either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox, are to follow the same route as well.
