Limited to just 15 units and based on the HSV GTS-R that debuted in February, the similarly named VXR8 GTS-R comes fitted with the same 6.2-litre LSA supercharged V8, tweaked to produce 435 kW and a whopping 740 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard with a heavy-duty six-speed automatic featuring paddle shifters optional.
In addition, the VXR8 also receives a stand-alone water-to-air charge cooling system, bi-mode air intakes, high flow exhaust manifold system, separate transmission and differential cooling, high flow exhaust with bi-mode silencers and nine PSI boost to help it accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.2 seconds, and on a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
Like the HSV, changes underneath the VXR8's skin have been extensive with a three mode (Touring, Sport, Track) Magnetic Ride Control system, upgraded brakes with six-piston calipers, new rear diffuser with the top half finished in carbon fibre, limited slip differential and Brake Torque Vectoring.
Aesthetically, the VXR8 GTS-R mirrors its Aussie cousin in that it features 20-inch forged Panorama alloy wheels wrapped, diamond shaped quad exhausts, redesigned front facia, carbon fibre splitter, new LED taillights and carbon fibre side vents.
Interior changes are made of diamond pattern Alcantara and leather trimmed electric VXR Performance sport heated seats with GTS-R embossed headrests, new instrument cluster, suede-like trim on the instrument panel, GTS-R branding and red stitching above the glove box, and GTS-R plaque at the base of the gear lever.
Notable driver assistance items are Blind Spot Alert, front and rear Park Assist with reverse camera, Heads-Up Display, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning and Driver Fatigue indicator.
Billed as the most powerful Vauxhall ever made, the VXR8 GTS-R will be limited to the UK only and command a sticker price of £74 500 (R1 306 457).
