Build at Honda's UK factory in Swindon, the Type R, which last month lapped the Nürburgring in seven minutes 43 seconds to unseat the Volkswagen Golf Clubsport S by 5.5 seconds as the fastest front-wheel drive production car, will be offered in two trim levels; base and GT, the latter mainly adding items such as dual-zone climate control, Honda Connect with Garmin satellite navigation, wireless smartphone charging, upgraded sound system and LED headlights.
Providing forward momentum is a revised version of the previous Type R's 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, which now produces 235 kW and 400 Nm of torque, and linked to a six-speed manual gearbox with a rev-matching function that blips the throttle on each downchange.
Pricing starts at £30 995 (R544 098) with the GT commanding a sticker price of £32 995 (R579 207). It remains unknown as to when the Type R will make its local debut.
