According to reports, the new Territory is effectively a rebadged version of the Yusheng S330, a compact SUV made by Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC) who have a joint partnership with the Blue Oval, and which is allegedly loosely based on the highly controversial Landwind X7 that gained criticism for copying the looks of the Range Rover Evoque back in 2015.
Externally, the S330 gains the same Ford corporate grille and headlights as the North American market Explorer, while the interior boasts an Everest style steering wheel, an integrated infotainment system with Ford software, leather seats and reported features such as a surround view camera, Autonomous Emergency Braking and FordPass Connect.
Reportedly heading for the Chengdu Motor Show next month, the Territory will come powered by a choice of three engines, of which no details were revealed, with a price tag likely to be more than the S330’s 80 000 yuan (R162 060). Don’t however expect it to land on local shores anytime soon.
