Although touted as being a design study and featuring the Sportback nomenclature despite being a coupe-styled crossover instead of fastback-inspired hatch, the concept, as per Audi Board Management Chairman Rupert Stadler, will became a production reality in 2019 "as an emotional coupe that is thrillingly identifiable as an electric car at the very first glance".
Measuring 4.9 m in overall length with a wheelbase of 2.9 m, height of 1.5 m and width of 1.9 m, the Sportback concept features a faux mesh grille, digitally control Matrix LED headlights, illuminated four rings logo, massive six-spoke 23-inch alloy wheels and side-mounted cameras instead of traditional door mirrors.
Providing forward momentum, the concept employs a single elector motor at the front and two at the rear for a total system output of 320 kW, or 370 kW in boost mode. Able to reach 100 km/h from zero in 4.5 seconds, the e-tron's centrally positioned 95 kWh liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack allows for a range of 500 km and be charged using either alternative or direct currents.
More details on the production spec e-tron Sportback are expected to emerge closer to its launch.
