GEORGE NEWS - After an overlong mid-year break, U3A is up and running again. Meetings take place at the Outeniqua Shell Hole of the Moth Hall in Rijk Tulbach Street, Loerie Park. People attending must remember to wear face masks and sanitise their hands before entering the hall.
The programme for the remainder of this month includes:
- Lecture on UFOs
On Friday 20 August, Case Rijsdijk will deliver a lecture on 'UFOs (unidentified flying objects)'. UFOs are simply something that are observed in the sky, both at night and during the day, that are not normally identified, such as an aeroplane, balloon or helicopter or any other man-made object.
On further investigation, most UFOs are explained as conventional objects or phenomena.
Tea is at 10:00 and the lecture starts at 10:30.
- Talk on canals
On Wednesday the 25th at the general meeting, Dick Cullingworth will give a talk on canals. This will cover a brief history of canals, from the Pharaohs and ancient China to the downgrading and abandonment in the first half of the 20th century. While the main focus is on England, the presentation will also touch on many well-known world canals.
Tea is at 10:00 and the meeting starts at 10:30.
- International Affairs
Monday the 30th sees the return of International Affairs with Case Rijsdijk. This will take place at 14:00.
