This appalling threat came after Mr Jonas Nilsson was granted permission to rent a car in Cape Town using his Swedish drivers license, but in George a Municipal Traffic Official decided that the license was invalid, fining him R500 for 'driving without a license'.
Nilsson and his fiancé, only known as Sanna, lodged a complaint with the George Executive Mayor, Mr Charles Standers. Sanna said that she's a co-owner of a Swedish newspaper and will write about the incident to stop tourists from visiting George. The couple said they feel the traffic official treated them badly and Nilsson wasn't given the opportunity to explain himself.
On enquiry the newly appointed Head of Traffic, Mr Mark Green said: "The interpretation of the act is that the officer issued the summons correctly in terms of the applicable legislation. The officer was also interviewed and denied the allegations of being arrogant. The officers are being sensitised to always conduct themselves in a professional manner when dealing with the public."
