GEORGE NEWS - Two new directorates have been included in the George Municipality's organogram. The Directorate of Human Settlements, Planning and Development has split in two, with Planning and Development now on its own. In addition, the Directorate of Protection Services forms the eighth directorate, after its split from the Directorate of Community Services.
The George Council approved the filling of the two vacant positions of directors for the new directorates during the Special Council meeting on Monday. The two additional directors will cost the municipality R1,5 million each. Provision was made for this expenditure in the 2017/2018 budget.
Opposition councillors supported the restructuring, saying they will approve any changes that will lead to improved service delivery.
"As much as we are in support of this, everything that is done must be done according to the appropriate guidelines," said ANC Councillor Langa Langa.
PBI Councillor Virgill Gericke said the new structure has his full support if it is going to assist the mayor in streamlining service delivery.
SAC Councillor Basil Petrus and EFF Councillor Laetitia Arries asked that the appointments be made with caution.
