GEORGE NEWS - According to NSRI Wilderness duty controller Warren Page, the first NSRI crewman to arrive on the scene (a rescue swimmer) and two George municipal lifeguards who live in Herold’s Bay found that two men had gone to the aid of the man in trouble.
The identity of the rescuers, a surfer and a body boarder, is unknown.
“The good Samaritans had managed to secure the 59-year-old German visitor in the surf line using a surfboard and body board as flotation to aid the casualty, and the NSRI rescue swimmer and the two lifeguards launched into the surf armed with their personal rescue torpedo buoys,” said Page.
The rescue swimmers managed to reach the casualty and assisted him to shore. He required no medical attention. The surfer and the body boarder also reached the shore safely.
“NSRI commends the two unidentified good men for their assistance that contributed to the successful rescue, as well as the eyewitnesses who raised the alarm and provided in-depth and accurate information to the responding rescue resources as the incident was unfolding, which contributed to the successful rescue,” said Page.
Herolds' Bay was the scene of a sea rescue on Friday afternoon.
