GEORGE NEWS - Two Grade 8 learners at York High, Jesse van Heerden (13) and Kesia Gelderbloem (13), have received the prestigious Hennie Joubert Merit Prize awarded by Unisa.
This prize goes only to the top two candidates per grade in practical or theoretical music examinations.
According to their music teacher Margriet Venter, Jesse received two of these awards, one for his performance in Piano Grade 4, for which he achieved 95% and one for his performance in Theory Grade 3 for which he achieved 100%.
Kesia earned the award by achieving 100% in Theory Grade 3. Jesse and Kesia conducted these examinations in 2019 when they were learners at Holy Cross Primary School.
They have been studying music with Venter since 2014.
