GEORGE NEWS - Altogether 350 children enjoyed a day of rugby and generosity when Tigers Rugby Academy and its partners celebrated Mandela Day with a series of outreach initiatives across George.
The academy joined hands with R.A.W. Projects, Eden FM, Vodacom, Biggs Carpentry, 4J Carpentry and the academy's parents to make a difference in the community.
The outreach at Maraiskamp sports ground on Saturday 18 July included a free rugby coaching clinic for young players, giving children an opportunity to develop their skills while enjoying the spirit of the game.
A total of 350 children received refreshments and goody bags during the event.
R.A.W. Projects also awarded three rugby bursaries to deserving young athletes to support their sporting development.
The initiative extended beyond rugby. Three community soup kitchens received much-needed food ingredients, while Eden FM and Vodacom donated school shoes to learners at two local schools to help them attend school with confidence.
Riaan Lameley, founder and coach of Tigers Rugby Academy, thanked everyone who made the outreach possible, including sponsors, volunteers, parents and coaches who gave their time and support.
"The success of the initiative shows what can be achieved when businesses, organisations and community members work together to make a positive and lasting impact," said Lameley.
Tigers Rugby Academy is a community-focused rugby development academy with a mission to provide young athletes with quality coaching that develops not only their rugby ability, but also their character, discipline, confidence and leadership. Its coaching programme focuses on mastering the core skills of rugby, including passing, catching, tackling, kicking, game awareness, fitness, teamwork and decision-making.
Beyond rugby, the academy also works to impact local communities through outreach programmes and youth development initiatives.
