GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality shone at the 20 Years Anniversary of the Thusong Service Centre Programme which was organised by the Government Communication Information Systems (GCIS) and Western Cape Department of Local Government where the Waboomskraal Thusong Service Centre was named 1st Runner-up 2019: Outstanding Satellite.
Mr Siphiwo James: Director: Corporate Services, said for George Municipality to being recognised nationally amongst all municipalities in a top position means we are meeting high standards of service delivery and doing more than is required.
“With our services and the services of other government departments we are meeting the broader needs of our customers. Our officials can be proud to be counted among the cream of the crop in the country,” James said.
He applauded Mr Attie Lewie, Manager: Waboomskraal Thusong Centre and Mr Peter Noble: Manager: Client Services who are managing the centre. The officials attended the ceremony in September at the Grand West Casino and Entertainment World in Cape Town during a gala event.
Cllr Jacqulique Von Brandis, Portfolio Councillor for Corporate Services, also congratulated the officials on a job well done.
The Thusong Service Centre Programme was conceptualized in 1999. The programme has become a cornerstone of the Government-wide Access Strategy aimed at redressing the imbalances of the past by taking services and information closer to the people.
Currently there are 121 functional Thusong Service Centres across the nine provinces.
The Annual Thusong Service Centre is in its fifth year and seeks to showcase success stories around the Thusong Service Centre Programme. The theme of Annual Thusong Week is “Reinventing the way Public Servants Work, Batho Pele” and is scheduled from 16 – 20 September, aligned to the Public Service Month.
Additionally, the year 2019 marks exactly 20 years since the existence of the Thusong Service Centre Programme, therefore the Annual Thusong Service Centre Week will served as a heightened period for the 20 years milestone.
The 2019 Annual Thusong Service Centre Week took place against the backdrop of an “era of New Dawn, renewed hope” as alluded to by President Ramaphosa in the State of the Nation Address on 20 June.
