GEORGE NEWS - About 250 Thembalethans gathered in the Thembalethu Community Hall last week to pray for various burning issues in the country and their own community, as well as for the schoolgirls who were kidnapped from their boarding school in Nigeria in April by the militant Islamist group Boko Haram.

Local community development workers from the Department of Local Government organised the gathering.

In addition to the mine worker strike, the social challenges of Thembalethu, including crime, rape, drug abuse in schools and the high unemployment rate, were also on their prayer list.

Memela Noyakaza-Xesi, on behalf of the community development workers, thanked everyone who attended the session.

The Department of Correctional Services and Thembalethu Primary Choir sang at the event and all the churches of Thembalethu and NGOs were represented.
