GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Information circulating in a WhatsApp voice note that a man is accused of drugging, raping and assaulting a woman at the Fairy Knowe Hotel, could not be confirmed by police.
The voice note also suggests that the man, who was arrested on suspicion of theft and assault earlier today, Tuesday 4 August, is part of a syndicate that has been operating in the area.
The arrest follows shortly after complaints of theft and assault were reported at the George police station.
No rape incident could be confirmed.
“The suspect (38) was arrested this afternoon by four police members after he was apprehended in Kleinkrantz. He faces charges of theft of a firearm and assault following an incident that took place on 31 July,” Pojie said.
The man, driving a blue-grey Toyota bakkie with a GP registration number, was taken into custody by George police members near Kleinkrantz after he was allegedly apprehended by members of the public who chased after him from Sedgefield.
According to a source, the suspect, driving a blue-grey Toyota bakkie, was alternating between the GP registration number and a CX number.
