GEORGE NEWS - A 16-year-old youth was arrested at approximately 16:20 on Monday 14 March, when a home-made gun with a 9mm round was confiscated from him in Pacaltsdorp.
On the same day drugs with an estimated street value of R70 000 were seized from another suspect.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, members of the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team (ECCCT) were patrolling the streets of Pacaltsdorp when they noticed the youngster who was acting suspiciously.
"They approached the boy and proceeded with a search of a black bag in his possession when they found a home-made gun with one 9mm round inside. The firearm was confiscated and the boy was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm," said Spies.
Man arrested for possession of drugs
Later the same day, a 39-year-old man was arrested after various drugs were found in his possession.
This came after the ECCCT, in conjunction with Outeniqua K9 and Pacaltsdorp Crime Prevention Units, acted on a tip-off about a known high-flyer driving a VW Polo Classic in the area.
The vehicle was found and pulled over after which some drugs were found inside.
"Further investigation took the members to a residence in Zone 9, Thembalethu, where more drugs were found concealed among the laundry of the occupant of the premises. The suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of drugs," said Spies.
The police confiscated 545 Mandrax tablets, 104g of tik and 15g of khat powder.
At the time of going to print on Wednesday morning, both suspects were still in police custody awaiting their first appearances in the George Magistrate's Court.
