GEORGE NEWS - George-born and bred radio personality Sue Pyler will be one of the four news anchors on e.tv's second daily Afrikaans TV news bulletin, Nuusdag om 8 from next week.
Nuusdag om 8 - Nuusdag (Newsday) for short - and the daily news will be broadcast on e.tv's Openview HD channel from Monday 1 October, as well as on the eExtra channel on DSTV channel 195 and channel 489 (StarSat).
Pyler, a freelance radio presenter who has been a familiar voice on RSG and other radio stations for the last five years, has now signed an additional contract as a news anchor on the new channel. Her first live news broadcast will be on Thursday 4 October at 20:00.
Her bubbly personality, quick thinking and quirky responses will still be live on RSG, but viewers will see a more serious side of her when she reads the news.
Pyler said she has always joked about being a newsreader as they are always so serious, the exact opposite of her personality. "This is now my challenge to show that I can be serious as well. It is indeed an honour for me to work with people who have over the years set the benchmark for the industry like Suzaan Steyn, Elvis Presslin and Charlene Lackay."
Echbert Boezak, who will lead the new Nuusdag om 8 team, said that the team has great talent and depth. "Sue with her vast talent and calming gravitas is an essential element for the success of the channel. She has a big voice in a small body that will project the authority needed to tell South Africans what is happening locally and across the world."

Scheduled at 20:00, Nuusdag will not only be competition for SABC2's Afrikaans news bulletin at 18:30, but ironically also for eNuus on kykNET and kykNET & kie at 19:00. Nuusdag will be predominantly broadcast from e.tv's Johannesburg offices.
"To succeed in this industry you have to work hard seven days a week. Then only does the glamour come through," said the highly motivated Pyler.
