GEORGE NEWS - On Monday night, 27 May, BCom students from the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) George Campus had the opportunity to meet and interact exclusively with audit and accounting firms and the business community during the annual Student-Firm Connect event.
The main hall of the Mopani building on the campus was abuzz when the evening kicked off with a social meet-and-greet followed by a round of 'speed dating' between students and firms.
Afterwards students could return to the firm(s) of their choice for a proper introduction and information gathering on prospective employers and the world of work.
This is an annual event which has in the past led to a number of students finding job placements with local firms upon completion of their studies.
The event is hosted by the Department of Accounting of the local campus.
The annual awards hand-over to the top students of 2023 concluded the evening.
The overall top students were:
1st Year Extended BCom - Kabelo Matena
2nd Year Extended BCom - Sinoyolo Qumba
1st Year BCom Accounting- Ulrich Potgieter
2nd Year BCom Accounting - Kayla van der Merwe
3rd Year BCom Accounting - Lize-Mari Booyens
Peter Brodrick, coordinator of the George Campus Accounting Sciences Department, thanks the various sponsors for their contributions that played a large part in the success of the evening.
