GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Inspectors from the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) were called out to Delville Park yesterday, Monday 4 March, where a foal had fallen into an open drain.
According to GRSPCA senior inspector Salomé Bruyns, the foal fell into the open drain as the drain cover had been stolen days prior to the incident.
"We are very thankful that it was a foal that fell in and not an adult horse. The foal we could still manage to pull out, but a grown horse would've been a completely different story. Luckily we managed to rescue the little fellow and return him to his mare," said Bruyns.
The foal sustained only minor injuries, cuts and bruises and was treated by the GRSPCA's veterinarian on the scene.
The foal was medically assessed by SPCA veterinarian Dr. Suzanne Muller.
