GEORGE NEWS - Local police are still looking for the five armed robbers after they attempted to rob the Sasol Delight shop at the Sasol filling station in Nelson Mandela Boulevard. The attempted robbery took place on Monday 9 December at around 17:00.
According to the police the five suspects were driving a white Ford Fiesta with a CBS (Mossel Bay) registration number.
It is believed that this vehicle is a rented vehicle and that the number plates were false.
According to George police communications officer, Capt Nolonwabo Tshengu, CCTV footage shows four men walking into the shop. "It is alleged that the suspects forced the owner to open his office while threatening him with a firearm. The owner refused and the suspects fled the scene with no success," she said.
No arrests have been made and the police are appealing to the community to come forward with any information that may be of help.

Shortly after this incident police arrested four men in Mandela Village, Zone 8 in Thembalethu. Police found an unlicensed firearm upon searching the white BMW the men were driving in.
It is unclear at this stage if the suspects arrested are in any way connected to the attempted robbery at Sasol.

A source close to the investigation told the George Herald that police noticed the suspicious-looking BMW without number plates while responding to the Sasol complaint and chased after the BMW. The police chased the vehicle to Mandela Village where they cornered the vehicle.
"When they searched the car, they found a firearm inside. But at this stage it is unclear if these incidents are related. The situation regarding incidents like these is worrisome and more needs to be done to curb it," said the source.
