GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Starlets of the Garden Route Eisteddfod (GRE) are getting red carpet treatment this morning at the Arts Theatre in York Street during a black-tie event.
A total of 61 talented youngsters will receive awards for their superb performance at this year's eisteddfod which took place in August.
Some 40 awards will be handed over to the winners of the respective GRE categories, while 21 participants will receive a Rootey Award, which can be described as a special category award.
The winners of the Garden Route Eisteddfod, as well as the nominees and winners of the first annual Routey Awards, will be received on an actual red carpet, where they have the opportunity to talk to the press, answer a few questions and enjoy the limelight like professional performers.
"The event is organised to simulate to our amateur artists of the Garden Route how awards ceremonies are held in the art industry, thus it will be similar to the Oscars where the nominees will enter the venue on the red carpet and the press will have the opportunity to ask them questions for short interviews and take photos and/or videos," said Alida Gerber-Lategan, one of the organisers of the Garden Route Eisteddfod.
