GEORGE NEWS - After less than a week back at the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA), Fix the resilient little black cross breed dog that we have come to know and love, found his new home on Friday 15 March.
Fix's story has woven its way into the fabric of the animal-loving community of George and with his hazel brown eyes, he has touched countless hearts along his path.
Most of our readers will remember Fix as Johan du Preez's shadow. Du Preez was a homeless man who lived in George, and his bond with Fix was uncanny.
Fix always ate before Du Preez did and they shared a special friendship. Du Preez always said Fix was his daily fix to get through life on the street.
Sadly, after Du Preez's untimely death when he was hit by a bus in 2020, Fix's life was turned upside down and he was surrendered to the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA).
It was here where he found a home with Teresa Jardin who spoilt him with a life of luxury, love, daily walks, trips to the beach and his favourite toy, a tennis ball, for the last four years.
However, due to Jardin emigrating and personal circumstances beyond her control, Fix wasn't able to travel with her and she decided to rehome him through the SPCA - knowing that it was the best way for Fix to find a deserved home.
"It was one of the hardest decisions I've had to make. I'm really going to miss my boy terribly. To his new owner I just want to say thank you for taking Fix, my heart feels better now. I hope that he gives you as much love and joy as he did me. He is such a good boy. I can go now in peace."
Fix has found his forever home with Martha Jansen van Rensburg and it marked the beginning of a beautiful, and hopefully final, new chapter for Fix.
Jansen van Rensburg lost her beloved dog two and a half years ago.
"I was planning to adopt when Fix became available and he immediately stole my heart. He is a real gentleman and has adapted well to his new home and we've already had fun playing with his tennis ball. He is a darling dog and I'm so happy we found each other," she said.
Shortly after the adoption was approved, the GRSPCA posted a word of thanks on their Facebook page.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to Jansen van Rensburg for opening her home and heart to Fix. We also want to thank every single one of you for your support, whether through sharing Fix's story, sending positive thoughts, or considering adoption. Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey."
