GEORGE NEWS - A public hearing on the Upstream Petroleum Resources Development Bill will be held on Sunday 19 February at the Pacaltsdorp Community Hall from 10:00 to 14:00.
The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy published the Draft Upstream Petroleum Resources Development Bill (2019 Bill) in 2019 just after the first discovery of gas concentrate off the coast of Mossel Bay, seeking to ensure that the upstream petroleum sector is no longer regulated under the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act, 2002 (MPRDA), but under discrete petroleum legislation.
The 2019 bill has since been overhauled and the revised bill was introduced to Parliament in 2021. (Source: Herbert Smith Freehills attorneys)
