SOUTHERN CAPE AND KAROO NEWS - Our police, together with other law enforcement agencies in the Western Cape, are ready for tomorrow's elections.
"We are ready to ensure the safety of our citizens as they prepare to vote this week," said the Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile.
Operational forces have received their instructions from police provincial management and, according to Patekile, the community can be confident that they are fully prepared to maintain public safety throughout the election process.
All available resources will be deployed to ensure a free and fair electoral process and the safety of the public and acts of lawlessness and intimidation will not be tolerated.
To maximise forces at polling stations, vacation leave for members has been revised, and support staff will be utilised to supplement operational members.
Adequate deployment has been ensured to cater for any occurrence, and law enforcement members will be deployed to strengthen visibility during and after voting day. Reaction teams as well as Public Order Police will be available and on standby should any eventuality occurs.
