GEORGE NEWS - The team at Phambili Women's Shelter had the valuable opportunity to discuss challenges and explored ways in which George Municipality can provide operational support during a recent visit from George Mayor Jackie von Brandis and Portfollio Councillor Melvin Roelfse.
During their visit, a team from George Library Services delivered donated books in commemoration of Read Aloud day.
The Phambili Women's Shelter is a vital establishment that provides a safe haven for women who are survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
It's a place where they can find refuge, support, and empowerment as they work to rebuild their lives and become independent.
The shelter offers a temporary home to 25 women for a period of three months, providing them with a chance to heal, learn new skills, and find a way to support themselves, free from the fear of their perpetrators.
It's a place where battered women and their children can find refuge, support, and empowerment as they work to rebuild their lives and become independent.
"As a municipality, we recognise the importance of supporting organisations like Phambili, which rely heavily on donations and volunteers to continue their critical work," says Von Brandis.
"I would like to urge residents to consider lending a hand to this fantastic organisation, whether it's through donations, volunteering, or spreading the word about their amazing work."
Von Brandis extended her gratitude to the entire team at Phambili for the incredible work they do to support and empower survivors of GBV. "Your dedication and compassion are truly inspiring, and we are grateful for your tireless efforts to make a difference in the lives of these brave women.
"Let's work together to create a society where women and girls can live free from fear and violence. If you're able to support Phambili Women's Shelter, please consider doing so. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a significant difference in the lives of these survivors."
