GEORGE NEWS - The election and appointment of a new speaker, deputy mayor, chief whip and four new mayco members in the George Council was met with excitement at a Special Council Meeting last Monday 12 February.
Not only were four new members added to the mayco mix, but a whole new team emerged after major reshuffling was done, since many portfolio councillors were assigned to alternative directorates.

Head of the George Constituency, Tertuis Simmers, welcomed the new mayco members chosen by the DA's Federal Executive Committee.
"I wish them all of the best," he said.
"They are a nice, mixed bunch who can think independently and will know when to use the party's internal structures during decision-making that affects the broader George community.
"I trust they will implement the DA's 2016 manifesto in the various directorates where they play an oversight role, and that they will help the mayor with good, transparent and legal decision-making, taking George to greater heights."
Simmers said it is a "DA list with a DA mayor who will implement the party's manifesto until the next local government election".
He said speculation on social media regarding the compilation of the list and party factions is of little concern, as it doesn't affect the party's ability to make decisions.
"We are excited to go the distance with this team," said Simmers.
