SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The DA's newly elected chairman for the Western Cape's eastern region, of which the Eden district forms part, is very excited about his latest challenge.
"Get involved and make a difference," said MP Jaco Londt, who was elected chairman last Saturday at the Walvissaal in Hartenbos. He will automatically serve on the Western Cape’s provincial executive committee.
The other members of this committee will be elected during the provincial congress that will take place on 14 March.
The rest of the team for the eastern region is:
- Deputy Chairpersons: Christelle Vosloo, Memory Booysen (Bitou mayor) and Daniel Maritz (George deputy mayor)
- Secretary: Tertuis Simmers
- Additional members: Rudolph Smit, Okkie Terblanche, Djorge Maloy and Isaya Stemela
- Non-public representatives to federal council: Okkie Terblanche and Jenny Hartnick
- Public representatives to federal council: Charles Standers (George mayor)
- Chairman of finance: Dirk Kotzé
In his position, Standers will represent councillors at federal council, which is the highest decision making authority after congress. There are four representatives from the eastern region serving on federal council, including Terblanche, Hartnick, Londt and Standers.
Londt explained that his responsibilities include the roll out of political activities across the region. "I do for the region what Anton Bredel does for the province," he said. "Currently, my focus is to make sure we have suitable candidates for the 2016 election in 14 electoral divisions. This includes almost 140 wards in 14 B-municipalities, such as George."
