GEORGE NEWS - Five shacks burned down on Saturday 14 July in Zone 9, Thembalethu, leaving five families without home and clothes. No injuries were sustained during the fires.
The reasons for the fires are not yet known and no foul play is being suspected. Faith Mdaka, the ward councillor of this area, said some of the shack owners were at work when the fires occurred and they were called to come and see their shacks being engulfed in flames.
She said the incidents took place late at night (about 23:00) in Nqwemeshe Street and Thimbela Street.
She said the affected had three 7-year-old boys and one 3-year-old boy who desperately need clothing. "We again appeal to the people to be extra careful this winter when using electrical appliances and make sure they switch their stoves and heaters off before they go to sleep or leave the house," said Mdaka.
Mdaka asked people to please donate whatever they can to the affected families. She can be contacted on 078 380 0827 in this regard.
The families lost everything in the fires.
