GEORGE NEWS - Former York High student John DeVries has made many genres of movies and won awards under his own banner, TH Films, for productions like Five minutes till noon, Scapegoat, The duster of doom and others in film festivals around the world.
Now he has added four more festivals and seven more awards, for the short concept movie called The stranger in these classifications: Best Film, Best Cinematography (x4), Best Original Score (x4), Best Production Design, and Best Short Film.
The film is also now in the running for the prestigious Golden Eagles Awards.
"A special thanks to the Canadian Cinematography Awards, the European Cinematography Awards, New York Cinematography Awards and the Venice (Italy) Film Awards for recognition of our work,"said DeVries. "It is a huge shout out to this spectacular team."
DeVries wrote the script. The movie is set during the Second Boer War in South Africa and "follows a British officer who, being disillusioned by the atrocities committed on the civilian population, decides to turn on his comrades and join the ragtag Boer fighters resisting the colonial forces".
The Stranger stars Greg Kriek, Christine Amalia Tesco and Max Immelman, and is produced by Kriek and DeVries.
