"On 3 January, on the last train from Centurion, a man boarded Gautrain and smashed several windows in two carriages with a blunt instrument," he said in a statement.
"Due to Gautrain's stringent security measures the incident was effectively and immediately managed.
"Gautrain security was alerted and was waiting on the platform at Pretoria station along with members of the SA Police Service. The man was arrested and a case of malicious damage to property has been opened."
Vadi said Gautrain stations had several security measures including "camera surveillance and visible policing".
According to reports on Monday the man smashed the inside of the carriages with a pipe while several passengers were still inside.
