GEORGE NEWS - The 33-year-old Andile Majuba from Thembalethu was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment in the George Regional court for the rape and robbery of a George South woman at her home in January 2016.
Capt Malcolm Pojie, the Southern Cape Police Spokesperson, said Majuba will be incarcerated for at least 20 years before being considered for parole.
“The accused jumped over the wall of the complex where the victim lived and came in through the back door which was open for the dog at the time.
"The victim could see him in the kitchen from her bedroom. As she tried to leave the bedroom, he closed the door and pushed her onto the bed where he raped her several times.
"After the incident he asked the victim for some money and food. Upon taking her DVD player, some food and cool drink, he fled the scene on foot,” said Pojie.
Swift response by members of the George visible policing unit and detectives led to Majuba’s arrest about half an hour later.
While the victim was still giving a statement to the police, members on patrol searched the taxi rank in Cradock Street where someone told them that he saw a man fitting the description given by the victim, get into a Thembalethu taxi.
Majula was arrested soon thereafter with the stolen items and the victim’s underwear still in his pocket.
Majuba was found guilty and sentenced for rape, theft, trespassing, housebreaking with the intent to steal and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
Major General Oswald Reddy praised the investigating team and those involved in securing such an excellent conviction.
Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant, Emmerencia Booysin of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit was praised for a job well done.
He expressed his belief that this harsh sentence will deter potential rapist to refrain from committing similar or other offences.
“Such heinous criminal conduct can never be condoned and will be rooted out with might,” he said.
