GEORGE NEWS - The man who is accused of brutally murdering his girlfriend in the early morning hours of Friday 16 October, briefly appeared in the George Magistrate’s Court earlier today, Monday 19 October.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Capt Malcolm Pojie, Elton Veldman (46) has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his pregnant girlfriend, Leonie Williams (29), to death in front of their 6-year-old son.
“He was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to 27 October for a formal bail application. Rumours doing the rounds that the victim’s abdomen was cut open to remove a foetus or baby from her stomach, are unfounded as the preliminary result of the autopsy indicates that she died due to multiple stab wounds,” he said.
Earlier today a large group of Rosedale residents gathered in front of the George court building in protest against possible bail of the accused.
