GEORGE NEWS - A photo of a dachshund on the Garden Route SPCA Facebook adoption page spurred a lady to call the SPCA as she strongly suspected that the dog was her long-lost Daxie.
As requested, she came to the SPCA armed with photos she had kept as mementos on her phone, and pointed out the markings on the dog that confirmed he was indeed hers.
The lady said that she had reported her missing dog two years ago to both the SPCA and the police.
The gentleman who turned in the dog to the SPCA was contacted to hear his side of the story, and said that he was given the dog by a colleague. The previous owner told the SPCA that his wife had been given the dog as a birthday present 18 months earlier.
When it was confirmed that the dog had found its original owner, there were tears all around. The ecstatic owner and her children were thrilled with this good ending to a story that could have ended up much more tragically.
"Please, never ever keep a stray animal or give a pet away," cautioned inspector Pypers of the SPCA.
"Rather bring them to the SPCA so that we can find their owners or at least a loving home."
