GEORGE NEWS -The Garden Route Food Pantry (GRFP) is teaming up with NGO, Chefs with Compassion (CWC), in order to celebrate good deeds on Mandela Day next week Monday, 18 July.
Chefs with Compassion is aiming to distribute 67 000 litres of soup to beneficiaries around the country on Mandela Day.
The Garden Route Food Pantry will be coordinating the making and distribution of a minimum of 1000 litres in our region.
Carl van Blerk, founder of the GRFP is asking all hotels and restaurants to consider a contribution towards the total required total and also challenges all individuals who wish to help, to make a pot of soup as well. Every litre will feed four people, so everyone can make a difference.
George-based donations can be dropped off at the GRFP office in Glaze street on 18 July, before 13:00. For donations outside of George, please make contact with Van Blerk on 082 826 0731 for drop-off points.
Follow the Garden Route Food Pantry on Facebook to see who has committed a donation, and who the soup will be provided to.
George Herald is supporting this initiative and invites all our readers to post photographs on the George Herald Facebook page of the soup chef or the whole family making soup.
Group Editor Ilse Schoonraad and George Herald Editor Lizette da Silva have each pledged 10 litres of soup and challenge all Georgians to do the same or better!
Van Blerk asks all who will be contributing to contact him as soon as possible, so as to pledge the amount of litres that will be provided, in order to monitor and manage the expected food quantity on Mandela Day.
WhatsApp your details to 082 826 0731.
