GEORGE NEWS - Approximately 1 700 learners, teachers and former teachers from Outeniqua High School (Kwaggas) took to the streets en masse earlier today for their centenary march.
Several celebratory events have already taken place during the year and everything is building up to the main festival, which takes place from today to 30 July.
The school was founded on 16 July 1923 and the official inauguration was 20 July 1923.
As part of the celebrations, a large procession was held through the streets of George this morning. The procession started from the school at 10:00 and moved down Courtenay Street, into York Street, up Cathedral and eventually ended back at the school.
A gala dinner will take place on Friday 28 July, and on 30 July celebrations will conclude with a church service at the Dutch Reformed Mother Church.
Sport
On Saturday 22 July there is a sporting event between Kwaggas and their age-old rivals, Paarl Gymnasium. A week later you can look forward to inter-schools against Stellenberg High School.
Golden oldies festival
On 9 August, it is time for the Golden Oldies festival where recognition will be given to all former students who are 75 years and older.
