GEORGE NEWS - Georgians are encouraged to take part in the municipality’s Big Cleanup Project held today and tomorrow from 09:00 - 13:00.
George Municipality’s cleansing team together with other government stakeholders embarked on the in celebration and to raise awareness of World Cleanup Day. An education and awareness campaign forms part of the project.
Members of the public are invited to join in and assist in their areas. The programme is as follows:
- Tuesday 20 September, 09:00: Lawaaikamp: starting at the bottom of Garcia Street
- Tuesday 20 September, 09:00: Thembalethu Zone 9 along the N2
- Wednesday 21 September, 09:00 Rosedale along the N2
- Wednesday 21 September, 09:00 Parkdene along the N2
Please bring along gloves, a hat, water and comfortable shoes. Bags for the litter will be provided.
World Cleanup Day unites millions of volunteers, governments and organisations in 191 countries to tackle the global waste problem and build up the new and sustainable world.
The day is held annually over the course of a 24-hour period, on the 3rd Saturday of September.
World Cleanup Day aims to raise awareness of the mismanaged waste crisis by mobilising all spheres of society to participate in clean-up actions.
It is coordinated by the global organisation Let's Do It! World.
