GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Food Pantry has successfully registered as a beneficiary of rice, sent all the way from Taiwan, for the sole benefit of providing to vulnerable communities.
The rice was delivered recently.
With many container loads of rice already sent to South Africa through the Tzu Chi South Africa Foundation, it has been a vision for Garden Route Food Pantry founder, Carl van Blerk, to have this area put on the map for product donations.
"We are ecstatic to have the first of what we hope will be many more donations of rice delivered to George, and for this we also thank Fabian Booysen and his team at Right Side Up for the transportation," says Van Blerk.
"These six tons of rice will be so welcome and can complement the other food donations we get from local suppliers."
Van Blerk also encourages all local farmers and food suppliers to consider making donations to the food pantry, as all foods are assessed and donated to soup kitchens and feeding centres in the region.
