GEORGE NEWS - At the U3A's International Affairs meeting on Monday 28 February, the guest speaker, Pierre Diderichsen, will talk about Asian politics.
North Korea is stirring the pot, China is flexing its muscles and occupying islands, Taiwan is defiant and South Korea is protected by the USA.
Retired ambassador Diderichsen will give us an analysis of the relations between these Asian countries and their role in a possible second cold war. He will also describe his experiences of living and working in Asia.
Diderichsen was an ambassador to Switzerland and Lichtenstein before moving to Ireland. He has worked in the Department of Foreign Affairs, more specifically on the Asian desk, and has recently published a book titled African Viking - the life of a South African diplomat in challenging times.
This promises to be a very interesting and thought-provoking lecture and one that should not be missed. So come along to the Moth Outeniqua Shellhole in Rijk Tulbach Street for the lecture that starts at 14:00.
All attendees are required to wear a face mask and observe Covid safety protocol. The entrance fee is R10 for members and R20 for visitors.
