This took place in Cape Town last week where they received an award for excellence in literacy and were announced one of the top eight schools in the province. The award was as a result of the systemic evaluations for Grades 3 and 6 that were written last year. Some 247 000 Western Cape primary school learners participated in these standardised assessments, which are designed by the WCED to determine the performance levels of the children for Literacy and Numeracy.
"We are extremely proud of our consistent performance. The excellent foundations being laid in the primary school phase certainly stands our learners in good stead for their future high school and tertiary education years. This result, however, can only be achieved through hard work and dedicated, competent teachers as well as good parental support. Our aim is to maintain these consistently high results," said Mrs Jane Askew, deputy principal.
Mr Donald Grant, minister of education in the Western Cape, Mrs Jane Askew, Holy Cross Primary deputy principal, Mrs Terry Nougias, Holy Cross head of department: foundation phase, and Mr Penny Vinjevold, head of education: Western Cape, at the award ceremony.
