GEORGE NEWS - A small team of animal lovers spent Saturday morning 17 April taking care of cats and dogs in Syferfontein near Pacaltsdorp.
Syferfontein has many indigent animals that need help, so three local ladies, Veronica Robertson, Anneke Olivier and the Garden Route SPCA's adoption officer, Amber du Preez, took it upon themselves to spend most of their Saturday feeding, treating and dipping dogs, cats, kittens and puppies.
"People in Syferfontein are probably worse off than most other people in the area and this means their animals also don't get the care they need," said Robertson.
According to Du Preez, the small team dewormed 80 dogs and cats, handed out food parcels, tinned food, blankets and leads.

"Sick animals were taken in for treatment, sterilisation applications were taken and education given where necessary. We are however in urgent need of dog kennels, leads, dog and cat food and blankets. Our plan is to go every Saturday until the whole community's animals are healthy, sterilised and cared for," said Du Preez.

To raise much-needed funds, the team is holding a raffle draw where readers can win a prize worth R2 000.
"Tickets only cost R20 each and can also be bought by donating dog or cat food to the value of a ticket," says Robertson.
They are also in dire need of any size of plastic containers to use when they hand out dog and cat food. For more information, to enter the raffle or to donate, please contact Robertson on 071 149 6492.
From the smallest puppy to the largest dogs were helped.
