GEORGE NEWS - Her grandson held a knife to her throat, stole her money and left her to starve while he went out drinking with friends and used her cash for new clothes.

Those were just some of the thoughts that a drama group from Halt Elder Abuse Line (Heal) shared with the elderly persons from Sonskynhoekie in Blanco last week.

Erma Meyer, Masadie Nomdoe and Albert Mhlaba’s skit vividly showed the different kinds of elder abuse, including physical, psychological, emotional, financial exploitation and neglect. They also highlighted abuse arising from perceived witchcraft.
The morning’s activities were arranged by Badisa in the VGK church hall in Blanco as part of the 16 Days of Activism campaign.
