GEORGE NEWSFLASH - Police recovered a gun stolen in 1996 from a 32-year-old man in Thembalethu during a raid on Tuesday 1 August.
Ahmed Mahamuud (32) appeared at the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 3 August after he was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition at his house in Zone 5.
According to communications officer Captain Dumile Gwavu, the Thembalethu police received a tip-off that Mahamuud was in possession of an illegal firearm.
“The police arrived at his house and recovered the .38 special Astra 250 revolver with three live rounds. The firearm was one of three firearms reported stolen in a housebreaking in Germiston, Gauteng in September 1996. Only this one has been recovered so far. The case has been remanded to 26 September and he is out on bail of R1 000,” said Gwavu.
The Acting Station Commander of Thembalethu, Lieut-Col Eric Julies, commended the police officers for doing a good job and also thanks the community for working with the police by reporting criminal activities.
