GEORGE NEWS - The organisers of the George parkrun are celebrating what they deem to be their biggest achievement yet - their 500th weekly event!
All parkrunners and walkers are invited to join in the excitement on Saturday morning, 30 August as the 500th George parkrun sets off from the Garden Route Botanical Garden at the top of Caledon Street at 08:00.
This Saturday all participants are encouraged to wear something blue as it is parkrun's 500th achievement colour.
It is a parkrun tradition that runners who have completed 500 runs wear blue and, on Saturday, the best-dressed "blue" parkrunner will receive a prize.
Wayne Rider, George parkrun media liaison officer, says they look forward to seeing 500-plus participants on Saturday.
"Please join us and help us celebrate this magnificent milestone."
Last year, on 6 April, George Herald captured the birthday festivities when George parkrun turned 10 and this Saturday, we will once again be there with our cameras, pens and microphones.
Join the many other Georgians for a free, weekly 5km timed run or walk at 08:00 every Saturday. Four legged parkrunners on leashes are also most welcome.
And remember, at parkrun you don't need any fancy kit, to pay or to be fit. You just need to register, get your barcode, turn up and take part!
Rain or shine, let's parkrun!
