GEORGE NEWS - A team from George Municipality, along with the mayoral committee, visited Touwsranten, 30km east of George, on Thursday 19 September to engage with residents about essential service delivery.
The team aimed to address local concerns and provide residents with direct access to municipal officials and councillors.
"Rural areas on the outskirts of cities are often overlooked in terms of access to essential services, including municipal information and education. However, George Municipality remains committed to prioritising outreach in these areas," reads a statement released by the municipality.
The outreach included visits to a clinic and involved various departments such as human settlements, civil engineering, electrotechnical services, corporate services and financial services. The Garden Route District Municipality's (GRDM) roads team and GRDM Councillor Clr Stag Cronje also participated.
Despite challenging weather conditions, residents gathered at the community hall to voice their concerns. The engagement was deemed successful, with George Mayor Jackie von Brandis expressing optimism about future initiatives to connect rural communities with essential municipal services.
