GEORGE NEWS - George was announced tonight, Sunday 14 April, as a semifinalist in the Kwêla Town of the Year competition.
Georgians have a week until Friday 19 April to vote for their town to ensure that it receives more votes than Onrus and De Rust, the other two semifinalists in the Western Cape.
George's beautiful natural surroundings, commercial offering, the airport, golf courses, restaurants, outdoor markets, the nearby ocean and professional bus service were highlighted as aspects that make the town attractive.
The three semifinalists in each of the Northern Cape and Mpumalanga were also announced. They are Chrissiesmeer, Mkhondo and Dullstroom in Mpumalanga, and Upington, Vosburg and Dibeng in the Nothern Cape.
Over the next two weeks, the semifinalists in the other six competition regions will also be announced.
The town with the most votes in their competition region will represent their region in the final round among nine finalists.
SMS lines are open for voting from April 14 to April 19. To nominate George, SMS 'George' to 33157. Each SMS costs R1.50. Individuals may vote a maximum of 30 votes per number.
The ultimate winner of the Town of the Year will receive R1 million in advertising on KykNet.
